US tariff on UK single malt whisky contributed to 19.6% decrease in imports

The tariff of 25% imposed by the US Government on single malt Scotch whisky imports from the UK, in October 2019, reduced the single malt exports to the US by between 9.5% and 19.6%, between 2019 Q4 and 2020 Q4, according to a new study. The study estimates the decrease at 2.5 – 5.1M fewer liters of whisky being sold in the US market. The tariff ended in June 2021.
