The March 2021 Barth Haas Group Covid-19 monitor warns of constraints in the logistics sector, noting with the addition of challenges in Germany and the UK. In the UK, constraints are related to necessary COVID testing for road and sea freight shipments (reducing contact with external truck drivers), which leads to higher freight rates in order to compensate for the longer waiting times. For export container shipments an extreme shortage of refrigerated containers is noted in the report. For air freight, prices are higher due to reduced aircraft traffic overall as airlines reduce service (and raise airfreight rates).
