The Grain Industry Association of Western Australia’s (GIWA) barley council officially finalized the malt barley variety receival recommendations for next year’s harvest earlier this month.

According to these recommendations, Spartacus CL is likely to be the most popular malt barley variety grown in WA next year, with segregation being widely available at every port zone for 2022/23 harvest. Maximus CL variety is set to be available in some form during next year harvest. Bass and Flinders varieties will be removed from the offerings in the vast majority of areas, from next year harvest, with La Trobe variety being moved to a niche segregation across all areas during 2022/23 harvest, with no segregation at all after next year harvest.
