Team generates 50 megajoules of energy through nuclear fusion

A team from the Joint European Torus (JET) in Oxford (UK) managed to generate 50 megajoules of energy through nuclear fusion. The significance comes from the fact that this is more than double the previous record set in 1997. The results are good news for the advocates of nuclear energy as a clean alternative to fossil fuels. Nuclear fusion is the process that intends to reproduce what happens in the heart of the sun by fusing two lighter atoms into a larger one.
