Scientists from Japan have found a way to form cellulose nanofibers (CNF) from leftover biomass, resulting from the hop plant wasted during the beer brewing process.

The research has developed a technique to “upcycle” these waste products by using hop stems as raw material to extract CNFs, which have been attracting interest since the early 2000s due to their outstanding properties, including low weight and high strength and stabilization.
