Residual beer waste material is being up-cycled

Residual beer waste material is becoming up-cycled more and more into useful products, and this is not just a 2022 phenomenon. In 2017, a startup company Canvas raised funds through a crowdfunding campaign to launch plant-based beverages, including such things as barley-based milk, with flavours such as Cold Brew Latte, Matcha, and Turmeric Chai. These beverages are derived from spent grains sourced from breweries following the brewing process and which still contain nutritional value. In 2019, another start-up FUMI, developed a vegan egg white replacer using spent brewer’s yeast.
