Hops are grown again in Yamanashi (Japan) as a local alternative to cheaper imported hops and to respond to the craft beer popularity rise. All this despite the fact Japan lacks the land to scale up and compete with overseas hop farms. However, at micro level, small scale hop farms can support to a limited degree the demand for local hops in local craft beers.
