Could companies do the job of trees when it comes to CO2 consumption?

An Icelandic company is exploring a new such technique to turn CO2 into stone. On top of a volcano, the company is withdrawing CO2 from the atmosphere and injecting it into the ground where a mineralization process embeds the CO2 in the porous rock. This way the company is trying get rid of the undesired CO2 from earth atmosphere.
