The Brewers Association, representing small and independent American craft brewers, published 2020 industry report that shows both an all-time high number of operating breweries along with the first production decline in the modern craft area. The report shows a decline in market share of 9%, to 12.3% from 13.6% in 2019 and 13.0% in 2018, while the overall beer market decreased by 3%. The number of operating brewing companies reached a new peak at 8,764 breweries vs 8,391 in 2019 and 7,618 in 2018.
