Local barley used in local craft beer
May 7, 2021
All Saints Brewing Co released an old beer recipe, dated back to the Revolutionary War, called Old Hanna’s Tow’ Amber Ale, including the use of local barley grown about a mile from the brewery. The barley was grown by Heinnickel Farms (Pennsylvania) from a field planted in spring 2020 and was malted by a local craft maltster, CNC Malt, in nearby Butler Country (Ohio). The farmer and the maltster are partners in a pilot project called ‘Farm to Tap’, organized by local nonprofit Food21. Local continues to be a major focus for brewers and with that requires significant effort in growing local ingredients. We expect more of this focus on local going forward as consumers demand locally produced products, including beer.
