WBMBC17: Maltsters lauded with RMI honours
In Vienna on the night of March 22 three of the world’s best malting companies received some well-deserved recognition at the second RMI Analytics Brewing Supply Awards.
This year’s second BSA saw, for the first time, the category of Maltster of the Year, in gold, silver and bronze classes, awarded.
Taking out top honours with the gold award was GrainCorp Malt, the USA based malting arm of the Australian grain collector and trading house GrainCorp.
“GrainCorp Malt is honoured to have been recognized by RMI Analytics at its 9th bi-annual World Barley, Malt and Beer Conference in Vienna, Austria,” Chief Operating Officer of GrainCorp Malt, Darren Smith said.
“Our team of businesses, including Barrett Burston Malting, Bairds Malt, Schill Malz, Great Western Malting, Canada Malting, Country Malt Group and each of their affiliates, are proud of our achievements over the past few years and we find it very rewarding to be recognized by an industry leading organization.”
Judges cited not only the company’s commitment to sustainability, customer service and quality but also their drive to improve safety at their business units across the world.
Taking out the silver award was PMV Maltings an Indian based malting company with a corporate family history dating back to the dawn of Indian independence.
“We at the PMV Maltings family feel immensely happy and proud to be the first Indian malting company to win the silver honour,” Joint Managing Director of PMV Maltings, Vikas Jian said.
“After winning this great honour we will continue to endeavour to be the preferred malt supplier for the brewing, distilling and the food industry following sustainable barley sourcing and driving product and technology improvement.”
Finally the bronze winner was Netherlands based specialty malthouse The Swaen operating out of their historic facility at Kloosterzande in Zeeland.
“The award points out to our team and customers that we are on the right track…and will contribute to achieving our goals to be the best in customer experience, sustainability and making malt a craft” Commercial Manager for The Swaen, Eelco Scholte said.
Managing Director of RMI Analytics GmbH, Dr Christian Temme said the calibre of the entries into this year’s awards had been very high and it was pleasure recognizing all the hard work of these companies.”
“We at RMI were impressed by the performance of the three finalists, the work of the jury and the culmination of a two month process at the outstanding Awards Ceremony in Palais Ferstel,” Dr Temme said.
“Thank you to all nominees who have taken the challenge. Let me encourage the malt industry to participate next time in the third Brewing Supply Awards in 2019.”
The next Brewing Supply Awards will be held at the 10th RMI Analytics World Barley, Malt and Beer Conference in March 2019.
